About Brooklyn Boulders Gowanus

Brooklyn is where it all began in 2009, when we opened our doors in the old Daily News Garage. It’s more than just a city; it’s a state of mind. It’s about the creative clash of cultures that creates a diverse community, filled with passion and drive to make things happen.

We’re bringing Brooklyn to every city we go to – with facilities in New York, Chicago and Boston – spreading the #bkblove and that sense of community to other urban areas through rock climbing, fitness, art and events. At Brooklyn Boulders Gowanus (BKB) you’ll find unconventional experiences that engage imagination, passion and physical potential. Our hope is that you leave here inspired.

“Walk into Brooklyn Boulders, the Gowanus warehouse-turned-climbing-gym, and you might ask yourself: What’s with all these grunting people dangling, their bodies contorted into impossibly precarious positions!”

Well + Good

“Besides indoor rock climbing, Brooklyn Boulders offers a wide variety of classes, from basic climbing to slacklining (a type of tightrope walking that is popular with climbers).”

Business Insider

“Best Workout in Brooklyn: As far as practice sites go, Brooklyn Boulders—a converted truck garage off Third Avenue in Gowanus—is exactly what you’d want from an out-of-Manhattan fitness experience.”

“Where Humans Hang Around Like Bats: Brooklyn Boulders, as the cavernous, 22,000-square-foot playground is known, is the city’s largest and possibly most popular rock-climbing gym. But it is more than just a destination for adventure athletes.”

“The Adaptive Climbing Group is the brainchild of Kareemah Batts – she came around to the sport after a battle with cancer that cost her a part of a leg. She then found that she wanted to climb with other amputees and formed the group.”
