Small Group Training in the Beast Box

We’re coming up on a new year and for many of our community members that means new goals in climbing and fitness.

We’re coming up on a new year and for many of our community members that means new goals in climbing and fitness. Fitness classes are a great way to stay accountable, but if you’re new to the game it might be easy to get lost in a big room of people and not get time with an instructor to work on your technique. Personal training offers that hands-on time although training every week, and sometimes multiple times per week, might start to add up a bit.  

Here comes Small Group Training to the rescue. With SGT you receive the benefits of meeting with a personal trainer all for under $29 per session.*

Our team of trainers have been working together to develop the Beast Box, a specialized secondary fitness area at BKB Somerville. It comes complete with classes aimed at targeting specific body zones as well as dexterity, balance, flexibility, strength and even mindfulness. All of these classes are designed with the climber in mind to help you level up in your climbing technique.

BUILD A BACK | Tuesday + Thursdays | 5:30PM-6:30PM | Trainer: Piseth Sam

Whether you’re working on your first unassisted pull up, or reps in the double digits, this clinic will give you insight on how to master upper body training. This intensive five-class course is designed to be an educational experience as well as a great workout! Learn foundational back, bicep, tricep, and core exercises that will increase your strength, minimize risk of injury, and take your climbing to the next level.

LEGS 360 | Fridays | 5:15PM-6:15PM | Trainer: Piseth Sam 

Training for you next ascent or just your weekend hike?  By focusing on strength, endurance, agility, and flexibility, this class will offer a full, lower body transformation by hitting lower body muscles and stabilizers. Walk away with a wealth of knowledge on how to heel hook harder, sprint faster, and crush the approach with a powerful pair of stems.

PUNCH IT OUT: The Clinic | Thursdays | 6:45PM-7:45PM | Trainer: Piseth Sam

Unlock your inner beast with our popular boxing clinic. Learn foundational boxing skills in a fun and supportive environment. All the agility, mobility, speed, strength, and conditioning drills you would find in a combat gym without the ego. Boxing gloves are required.

MASTER YOUR MIND: Intro to Meditation | Mondays | 7AM – 8AM | Trainer: Jeff Siegel 
Learn essential elements of meditation as you are introduced to new practices, each week, such as lovingkindness meditation, walking meditation, breath awareness and more. This class is perfect if you want to try different styles of meditation, deepen your practice, or start again in a more thorough and systematic way.

TRX TRAINING FOR CLIMBERS | Wednesdays | 6:45PM- 7:45PM | Trainer: Alex Wisch
Especially great for building the strength and coordination needed in overhung, core-intensive climbs, you’ll explore the benefits of full body functional training that engages your midline with every movement. Suitable for beginner to advanced climbers.

 

ZERO TO HANDSTAND | Saturdays 11AM-12PM | Trainer Bill Frothingham

A beginner-level handstand and gymnastics class designed to build bulletproof shoulders, help tackle complex yoga positions, and become the coolest person at the party
