Youth Climbing Teams

BKBEASTS

From beginners to National Champions in training, The BKBeasts Climbing Team is a program created specifically for young climbers who want to progress while training in a fun, friendly, and supportive environment.

The team is divided into small groups (according to skill level) to provide personal attention and a tailored experience for each individual. Teams range from 1:5 to 1:3 coach-to-climber ratios and are available to youth ages 7-18.

The BKBeasts practice and train year round, including two USAC [USA Climbing] competition seasons: Bouldering and Sport Seasons.

Bouldering Season

  • Bouldering
  • September to December (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • Bouldering National Championships for qualifying competitors in February

 

Sport and Speed Season

  • Top rope, sport and speed climbing
  • February to May (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • Sport and Speed National Championships for qualifying competitors in July
  • July to September (training continues outside of the season. At this time, Beasts focus on conditioning and preparing for the upcoming seasons)

Team Tryouts

Tryouts are held prior to the start of each season, and selection is based on the Team descriptions and criteria (listed below). Please note the following:

BKBeast 101’s: New participants must tryout for placement and assessment

BKBeast Club Team: No tryouts

BKBeasts Junior Competitive Team: All participants must try out at the beginning of each year. New participants may try out before either season.  

BKBeasts Competitive Team: All participants must try out at the beginning of each year. New participants may try out before either season.

101 Tryouts:

September 8 from 9 – 10AM

Junior Competitive + Competitive Training Tryouts:

September 9 from 9 – 10:30AM

 

 BKBeasts Team Membership Information

  • Full Facility Access included for all BKBeast Members
  • 2 guest passes per month
  • Exclusive access to special events, workshops and programming
  • All monthly memberships are Monthly Auto Pay (MAP) and require credit card on file
  • Brooklyn Boulders awards to members of the youth climbing community who are in need of financial assistance.

101 Team

(1 Practice/Week)

$200/Month

Welcome, young beasts. This is our entry level team for ages 7-10. The 101 program is all about having fun while making friends and learning the foundations of climbing technique. We use a combination of climbing games, and movement lessons as well as the slow introduction of some training elements to keep these BKBeasts excited and engaged while they grow as climbers. This program provides everything needed to get on the path to joining the competitive teams or a lifetime of recreational climbing. Practice is 1 day per week with a 1:5 coach-to-climber ratio.

Club Team

$250/Month

Love to climb? Join the club. The Club Team program is for kids ages 11-18. Here, climbers will get the boost in focus and fitness they need to reach their goals and enjoy recreational climbing at whichever level they’d like to pursue. The focus of Club Team is an exploration of personal limits through creativity and climbing; pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones and into the land of innovation and growth through goal setting, skill-building, camaraderie, and personal commitment. While competition is not a requirement of this team, Club members can choose to attend competitions along with members of the Junior Competitive, Competitive, and Advanced Competitive Teams. For teens new to climbing, a year of Club Team may provide a strong foundation to make the transition to the Junior Competitive Team. Practices are held 2 days a week at a 1:5 coach-to-climber ratio.

Jr. Competitive Team

(2 Practices/Week)

$325/Month

The Junior Competitive Team is reserved for climbers with a love for climbing and a desire to develop a higher level of climbing ability. The training program focuses not only on developing physical/mental strength, technical proficiency, and competition formats, but also on team building and having a blast together. Practices are 2 days a week at a 1:4 coach-to-climber ratio.

**All climbers wishing to train at this level should attend a try-out in the fall to get an introduction to the expectations and environment involved in a competitive program.

Goals of this Team:

  • Must compete at USAC Regionals during each season
  • Have a commitment to year round climbing and physical fitness
  • Demonstrate a high level of self motivation to work towards seasonal competitive goals
  • Exhibit a high level of technical proficiency, movement skills, and understanding on the climbing wall
  • Demonstrate a willingness to adhere to the BKBeast’s Behavioral Standard (on and off the wall)
  • Have a desire to compete at a level

BKBEASTS COMPETITIVE TEAM

(3 Practices/Week)

$400/Month

The Competitive Team is the place where competitive athletes begin to take their training to the next level! The training for Competitive Team BKBeasts is focused on pushing their physical and technical climbing abilities further to achieve more success at USAC Regional, Divisional, and even National Championship competitions. Practices are held 3 days a week at a 1:4 coach-to-climber ratio. These BKBeasts try out each year in the fall to earn a place on the competitive team.

Goals of this Team:

  • Train to improve performance at USAC Regional and Divisional Championships
  • Exhibit a high level of technical proficiency, movement skills, and understanding on the climbing wall
  • Have a commitment to year round climbing and physical fitness, and work towards goal achievement for both
  • Demonstrate a high level of self motivation to work towards seasonal competitive goals
  • Demonstrate a willingness to adhere to the BKBeast’s Behavioral Standard (on and off the wall)
  • Have a desire to compete at a and level
